Welcome to the Centre for iTaukei Studies

The Centre for iTaukei Studies of the University of Fiji was established with the aim of providing studies on Fijian society and economy, history and culture, language and literature within the context of a multi-cultural Fiji. Through the Centre, the University of Fiji responds effectively to the needs of the indigenous Fijians. The Centre engages on the teaching, research, publication, consultancy and community services activities focusing on important aspects of indigenous Fijian society like history culture and tradition, Fijian society and modern political development, Fijian resources and the economy, Fiji as a multi-cultural society and new challenges in a globalizing world. Our programmes and courses are developed within these broader aspects of indigenous Fijian society. In this present fast-paced globalizing world, most iTaukeis have limited or no knowledge at all about their history, origin and culture as well as values and beliefs, like a tree without roots. The Centre for iTaukei Studies therefore provides the route to follow to know their roots and to remember who they really are. We welcome you as you join the Centre for iTaukei Studies and travel together through our programmes on a journey of discovering yourselves.
