Physical Collection - University of Fiji

General Collection

This collection accounts for more than half of the volumes in both libraries; Samabula and Saweni. It contains books that address the resources that Schools of the UoF require to support learning, teaching and research. In this collection, one would find books on the following subjects and more: Psychology, Literature, Social Sciences, Accounting, Finance, Business, Sciences, IT, Mathematics, Law, Medicine, Humanities, Arts.

Reference Collection

Present in both libraries, this collection has documents pertaining to hard core and specific reference resources; encyclopedia's, dictionaries, almanacs, handbooks, yearbooks, manuals. Disciplines like medicine and law also have their reference materials kept together for ease and practical usage by students enrolled in the respective programmes.

Medical Collection

This collection is also present in both campus libraries. The resources in these collections are heavily used due to the number of students enrolled in the UPSM&HS programmes.

Law Collection

The Law Collection is fully housed at the Samabula Campus, although a number of documents like the 'Laws of Fiji' and its updates are kept at Saweni Campus library too. The section K is where a majority of the resources on law are found and classed.

Reserve Collection

In this collection are housed, documents or Basic Recommended Readings that Lecturers and academics in the different Schools have placed aside for their students. Because there is usually only 1 or 2 copies of the resource, they are issued on an hourly basis so that all the students have an equal chance of reading their texts.

Leisure Reading Collection

This collection is a newly established one at the Saweni Campus Library and has resources, mostly novels in the following genres: Adventure, Thriller, Action, Mystery, Comedy, Supernatural, Military, History, Crime, Suspense, Romance, Science and Comedy for Fiction books. For Non-Fiction, the books catalogued include Biography, Memoirs, Inspirational, Country and Health. The collection was put together to cater to the literacy needs of students at tertiary level.

SPECIAL COLLECTIONS

The University of Fiji Library also have collections specifically to cater to the vernacular due programmes and courses offered by SOHA and CIS. It also has the collections of classic writers and noted academics; whose works and collections add, strengthen and complement the resources of the Library as a whole.
